Nothing But The Truth(reflections)
I feel that this is a very sad story. In the end, Phillip was transferred to a school that he did not like and Ms. Narwin was fired. Also, the school failed to get the budget. This ending is not good to everyone. This all happened because Phillip had refused to explain his problem to his parents. Perhaps if Phillip had told his parents about his troubles, he would not have needed to resort to such method. Also, I feel that Dr.Palleni is a very uncaring and unreasonable woman. All she wants is for people to do as she wishes. For example, she refused to listen to Phillip's explanation on why he was singing the national anthem which was against the school rules. Also, she had dismissed Ms. Narwin because she felt that she would cause the school to fail to get the budget that they required. But in the end, the school still failed to get the budget. Finally, I feel that Ms. Narwin perhaps was a bit to insensitive. When Phillip had been disrespectful, she should have been able to sense that there was something wrong with Phillip Malloy. Then, she could talk to him about his problem and probably solve the problem between them. If this had happened, the story might not have resulted in such an unhappy ending for all of them.

I agree with you that the story might not have resulted in such an unhappy ending for all of them if Phillip explained his problem to his parents. If Phillip had told his parents about the amount of stress he was getting, things would be so much different and so much better.
If the principal had stepped into Ms. Narwin's shoes and Phillip's point of view of the whole incident, maybe she would change her decision over Phillip and Ms. Narwin. The ending would be different and change for the better if the all the characters in this story, Nothing But The Truth, have worked hard together to prevent the school from losing the budget, prevent a good english teacher to resign, and maintain the school's good reputation.
If Hwa Chong's reputation would fall just because of a person in the whole school, what a waste it would really be! However, Hwa Chong have reasonable rules and caring teachers and principals, so what happened in Nothing But The Truth would never happen to Hwa Chong. This is why we have a panel discussion with Dr. Hon every Monday, as Dr. Hon wants students' point of view over a subject as he would not be too biased against something in his decision.
Thus, I absolutely agree with the reflections
you wrote.
Yours Sincerely,
Seow Jing Ye
This is a perceptive analysis, Keenan. Many conflicts could be avoided if people simply talked to each other instead of past each other.
